Martial Arts in Flushing, Michigan, Genesee County

About Heian Karate Do

Since 1993, we have been the leading Karate School proudly offering the Flushing area unsurpassed quality. We strive to take martial arts back to its roots as both a physical and spiritual art form that represents a harmonious way of life. In a world of seemingly unending pressures, we represent an oasis of calm and balance.

Martial arts give you the tool to stay present and focused while standing in the eye of the storm. It is this self-awareness that allows you to make the best decisions in stressful situations, and to defend yourself when needed. We promote inner advancement above outward appearance.

Who We Are

At Heian Karate Do, we focus on practical, self-defense applications of Shotokan karate, one of the most popular styles, based out of Japan.
We feel that when it comes to defending oneself, a person can only fight as hard as they train.

So yes, we train hard, but we also learn a lot and have fun. This is how we make progress.
Heian Karate Do is a karate community who has your back!

"Beginning your study of the martial arts at Heian Karate Do provides you with a unique education. The learning environment we are cultivating at the school is one that promotes inclusivity, self-confidence, and personal growth. The karate that we practice has the potential to teach life skills as much as it has the potential to teach us the art of utilizing the human body. I began my karate journey in 2006 and have studied ever since, whether it's exploring Shotokan or various other styles of martial arts, my passion is to continuously help you grow. Above all, when you train you don't get to hide yourself. You are who you are. There's no hiding behind societal norms or any kind of mask you put up, you can be completely and wholly yourself."

"Shotokan Karate is about being everything you were meant to be. It's about being unashamed of who you are and having a community to support you. Through techniques you can find strength, peace, and hope for anything coming your way. I began training at Heian Karate Do when I was 11 years old, and it was the greatest achievement of my life. The Heian Karate Do community changed my life forever, giving me the courage and strength to tackle anything in life, the dedication to helping people in any form, and the passion to pursue dreams both inside and outside the dojo. My promise to you as my students is to always push you to reach your potential, guide you through life skills, and always have your back."
